The Pays de Cocagne Sustainable Development Group (GDDPC) is a non-profit organization which works in the Cocagne Bay and River Watershed, in South-East New Brunswick, Canada. Managed by a Board of volunteers, the GDDPC works with communities since 2000. Beausoleil, Maple Hills and Champdoré are part of the territory. More than 20,000 residents live here, and there are many cottages too.

The GDDPC programs aim for a holistic sustainable development of the territory and offers opportunities for citizens to manage their environment. The GDDPC acts as a catalyst for the sustainable development of the community. It puts together programs to improve the quality of the environment and the quality of life of the residents of the Cocagne River Watershed.

OUR MISSION

The GDDPC’s mission is to facilitate citizen engagement to ensure the sustainability of communities of Beausoleil, Maple Hills and Champdoré located in the Cocagne watershed.

That the Pays de Cocagne be a viable and sustainable community where people have a good quality of life and where:

  • They can grow and flourish safely.
  • They can be autonomous and able to choose.
  • The environment is healthy.
  • The resources are wholesome and accessible.
  • The population is informed, responsible and engaged.


OUR MANDATE

The GDDPC organizes activities and implements mechanisms that enable the Cocagne River Watershed area to take the reins and develop in a sustainable way.


OUR OBJECTIVES

  • To develop activities and partnerships within the Cocagne Watershed area to promote understanding of sustainable development including nature, food, culture, economy, and social justice.
  • To organize activities promoting connections between Cocagne citizens and nature.
  • To ensure the conservation of the natural resources and local heritage of the Pays de Cocagne.
  • To organize, promote and provide the area’s population with consultation, liaison officer and monitoring services.
  • To gather information to develop a holistic management plan for the Cocagne River Watershed area and share the findings with policymakers.
  • To represent members when collaborating with the community and other development groups.
  • To advocate the use of sustainable development tools across government bodies.
  • To manage funds to achieve the GDDPC’s financial self-sufficiency.
