The objective of the Biodiversity in the Schoolyard project is to develop a teaching guide that demonstrates the importance of biodiversity and provides practical ways that people can follow to increase biodiversity on school grounds.
By creating Natural Spaces on various schoolyards, the Pays de Cocagne Sustainable Development Group has and continues to create unique learning opportunities. The group also develops educational tools in order to build cultural identity linked to the Acadian forest among students and teachers. An example of one of these tools is a virtual book titled "In the hands of children'', written by Mélanie Daigle and illustrated by Emerise Leblanc-Nowlan. Additional support materials have been developed in order to further explore various concepts which are feasible either in the classroom or outdoors and will help students reach various learning outcomes as well.
There are plenty of things you can do to accomodate natural spaces at home, at our school or our workplace to protect biodiversity. A no mow zone is a simple and effective way to discover and protect biodiversity at home! You will find the five steps to do it yourself (French only).
We have compiled practical tools to help schools and citizens to make ecological planning to increase biodiversity on their land.
